My work

I'm a programmer with over 15 years of experience, mostly developing frontend and backend web applications based on Linux or other UNIX-like operating systems.

I'm available for short (< 3 months) projects. E-mail/DM me for more information or check here (Dutch).

ilse.nl

For the last couple of years, I've been lead developer for ilse.nl, a Dutch search portal. This website is based on the Django web framework, and we've developed custom middleware and extensions to — for example — make frontend/backend communications using AJAX a breeze.

For this website, we also use Apache Solr, Xapian, MongoDB, Mercurial, Redis, uWSGI and nginx.

quotefix

QuoteFix for Mac is a plug-in for the default Mac OS X mail application, Mail.app. This plug-in provides extra functionality not available in Mail.app, mostly related to replying and forwarding e-mail: customized (HTML) attributions, bottom-posting (SFW) and generally removing clutter.

Over the years, it has attracted several hunderd users who, paraphrasing some, "cannot live without it".

QuoteFix is still in active development.

jQuery API browser

For my own amusement and reference, I developed a jQuery API browser.

sync

SYNC is an innovative online magazine which I co-founded and helped develop.

One innovation which I developed is the "print bundle", or the ability to package articles on the website into PDF files for easy reading on mobile devices, or for printing.

ontmoeting

Ontmoeting (Meeting) is an interactive video installation where old movies from Brabant (a Dutch province) engage in a relationship with current-day footage. The project was initiated by Ingrid van Zummeren and Marloes Hoogenstraaten, and was presented on October 20th 2008 in Eindhoven.

The interactivity of the installation consists of a walking path, initially in the Stadskantoor of the city of Eindhoven, The Netherlands. People moving along this path are being tracked by an overhead camera, and according to their position on the path, two movies (the old and the new) are mixed together and shown on a large screen.

Together with Martijn Verhallen, I've implemented the technology behind this installation using Max/MSP+Jitter on Mac OS X.
